EF-s lenses produce smaller image circles. So they are lighter (and cheaper) than a comparable EF lens would be. That's it.
Note the focal length is always the focal length. A 50mm lens still has a 50mm focal length on a 1.6 crop camera. It has a different effective field of view, but that's not the same thing.
Also note this has been going on forever: a 50mm lens on a medium format camera (obviously with a bigger image circle) as a different field of view that it does on a "full frame" camera.

People are throwing around "Unix" and "Windows" like they used to throw around "RISC" and "CISC". There is no reason of which I am aware why a future version of Windows cannot scale to as many processors as any version of Unix, just like the nasty ol x86 ISA has yielded top-notch processors like the P4 and Athlon.
I think that everyone here who argues otherwise is engaged in a desperate attempt to justify their worldview that equates Apple with perfection and wisdom, or perhaps equates Microsoft with evil and boundless stupidity.

Since this is Zune launch day:
Seeing as apple now has a majority of auto makers making connectivity and now the airline industry is getting on board, this is a major blow to the Zune. Neither cars nor airplanes will come with every connection possible so that any media player can be used. This is a great step for apple and potential apple customers.
How about a built-in mag safe connector for the airplanes too? :)
Exactly! How many airlines are going to pony up $X-million to outfit their fleet with the newest proprietary media plug-in? Zilch. They're going to say to M$ and the rest, "Sorry, we just spent our pilots' pensions on ipod connectivity, come back in 3 years and we'll see what we can do..." :D

Whoever advised them to not put the maps onboard and download as needed, needs to be fired- poor decision.

That brain dead decision has elevated their products usefulness to that of Google Maps. Maybe just slightly better. But from a user experience driving in the middle of nowhere and then coming into an area where you need street date etc. ...that design just SUCKS big time. When you need it most ...major , MAJOR FAIL.

Jeez. Just enjoy the thing you already bought. No use contemplating whats next. But ... a ULV SB and 3000 graphics is a decent trade off (for the 11"), the 13" can get ULV SB and 3000 graphics. (w/e its not like its that much of a difference, who plays hard core games on a machine like this and has space leftover), backlit keyboard, less bezel or a black border (not happening), HD facetime (why not), and a thiner body. Sure this is thin. Even thinner would be better :)

I strongly disagree that these ads are elitist, or even snobbery. The point of the ads is that mac is different. HP can use demonstrations to show how, in a perfect world, their computers can do good stuff with windows. Apple has a different need. Apple does not build commodity computers. Apple is an ALTERNATIVE SYSTEM must differentiate itself compared to everything else out there. The need is to show that there IS a difference, and that Apple represents a very different way of working with computers.
As a recent switcher I can tell you the ads were very effective at delineating my concerns with Windows, and showing me that Mac might be the answer. ( Which, by the way, it was!)

Must be nice to be able to spend all day standing in line. I have to earn my iPad 2 today by going to work. I plan on getting there at 4:00pm sharp, save me a white 32gb with an orange cover please :-)

Mall security is getting anal about sitting in front of stores. They came by and measured out from the store opening and if you are in the way they make you move.
On a good note the Nestle toll house cookie store is starting to open.
